These owls are very large with round heads, no ear tufts and long tails. Barred owls live mostly in forested areas and in swamps. Some of the names that Barred Owls go by are: Swamp Owl, Hoot Owl, Rain Owl and Wood Owl.
Barred Owls are known for their very loud hooting sound. They are silent fliers that are light, but have heavy wing beats that allow them to fly very high but they are not known for soaring.
